April 19th propriano

A beautiful cycle today. Blue skies from the off. A couple of steep, but luckily not too long climbs, along the coast road. Luckily this road takes you away from the more tortuous inland route. Beautiful views. The coast road then gave way to fabulous rolling countryside, reminiscent on a really sunny day in the north of England, of a ride through the trough of bowland. Eventually it flattened out completely to give us 5km of true flat cycling, the only bit for the past 8 days except along a couple of promenades. Arrived in propriano as hoped and booked into nice campsite. Propriano a nice small port with various beaches, all good for day of rest tomorrow.

April 20th Beach in propriano

After succesful shop for new gear cables and purchase of tickets for ferry for next day we went off to beach for the first real beach day. The photographic evidence of this caused much mirth on Facebook, learnt a lesson about posting in bright sunshine. Anyway very pleased to have made people laugh on a bit of a sad day for comedy, with the death of Victoria Wood and earlier in the week, Ronnie Corbett, so feel we have done a good service. It did make us cry with laughter when we saw it properly later. The 10th stage of Tour de France (scrabble) occurred, but unfortunately still no coverage available. (OK, maybe that's a fib.......ultimate score 6:4 to the team French!!! Team KP needs a regroup before the Giro) And so to bed for early start to go to Italy! Bit nervous about no knowledge of local language, will need to rely on Dave now, with his perfect pronunciation of Grazie and prego. 😃

2April 16th Galeria to Porto

Early start as a 50km day today. Absolutely stunning again. Not much more to say, lovely steady climb to a 406 metres col. Then mainly a freewheel down, with a bit more up and down towards the end. Lovely campsite with little spaces that one could ones own and we found a table and chairs so very comfy. Then unfortunately we lost the broadcast of the Tour de France (scrabble) that's what happens with ITV 4........shall bring it to you when normal service resumes.

April 17th Porto to Salonge

Started with a long quite steep climb up to Piana. No prizes for the song that was going round both our heads. Luckily cloudy during the ascent. Stunning again, and at the top are Les Callanches de Piana, rock formations that are other worldly. Piana a lovely little spot for a nice coffee stop. Then it was a long free wheel down. Countryside becoming less rugged now. Salonge a little seaside place. 4 star campsite, very reasonable. Unfortunately only an indoor pool with young people in it, the only downside, so no where to sit and chill. Early night as feeling more and more tired.

April 14th I'lle rousse to calvi

A great nights sleep initially until the wind started! Wipping around the tent, filling me with trepidation with regards a cycle into it. Luckily it had dropped a bit by the morning. Good bit of shopping done as Dave now has new panier holder and chain. Then we set off to Calvi. Unfortunately only a big red road to Calvi and though with a cycle path, unable to really appreciate the views which were stunning. Turqouise and blue ocean with white beaches. Not a bad cycle though and arrived in Calvi. Lovely marina with expensive coffees, beautiful citadel perched up on peninsula. Booked into a lovely campsite, with a pool that was heated and open with slides and everything. Finished off with the most amazing effect of the sunset on the mountains, stunning. Tour de France (scrabble) continued and form is being gained by the boy, 4:3.

April 15th Calvi to Galeria

Stunning cycle today, dramatic cliffs that did inspire vertiginous feelings in both of us. Beautiful red tinged cliffs and snow topped granite mountains in the centre. Truly a beautiful island. Galeria is a sleepy little place, mainly used for diving. Just the one campsite, 70's throwback. Hot day but quickly chilled, not before the 8th stage of TDF (scrabble) ended with all square. These last few stages are going to be tense, can the girl pull it back before the Giro commences in Italy. We shall see. Cold night but due to 3 layers of clothing worn not a bad nights sleep.
